With the 2015 phase-out of the Green Class A Uniform and the introduction of Army Service Uniform (ASU), regulations specified that although the beret would be the ASU’s primary headgear, both Officers and Enlisted Soldiers were required to also own the service cap. Whether or not Soldiers at the Corporal grade or higher wear the beret or the service cap is up to the discretion of their commanders.

Our service cap for Enlisted Soldiers is manufactured in Army Shade 450 and meet or exceeds all pertinent Army regulations. The hatband consists of a basket-weave mohair braid, also in Army Shade 450, with a half-inch gold braid at the top; service caps for officers feature gold braids at the top and bottom. Another aspect of the Enlisted service that varies from the versions worn by Officers is the chinstrap, which is made of black leather to match the visor.

Personnel are not required to wear any type of headgear when wearing the ASU when attending formal evening social functions (after retreat). But regulations specify that headgear is worn at all other times the ASU is worn.
