U.S. ARMY CSIB 66TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BRIGADE

Originally created as the 66th Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment in 1944, the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade has undergone several changes in its name and role. The original corps was attached to the 66th Infantry Division to screen incoming French refugees fleeing German forces. It was de-activated after the war. But in just four years, it would be re-activated in Europe to run counter-intelligence operations in southern Germany due to the growing threat of the Soviet Union. In 1952 it would be re-organized into the 66th Counter Intelligence Corp Group, and in 1960 would become the 66th Military Intelligence Group. At the same time, its base of operations changed from Stuttgart to Munich, and its missions from southern to northern Germany.

In 1986 it was re-organized into the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 66th Military Intelligence Brigade. After the end of the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Union, the 66th moved its headquarters to Augsburg, Germany. Re-designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 66th Military Intelligence Brigade, it would be in-activated three years later due to treaty restrictions.

However, in 2002 it would be re-designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 66th Military Intelligence Group and re-activated to Darmstadt, Germany. It received its current designation in 2008, as the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade and move to Wiesbaden Army Airfield, in Germany. The unit’s mission is to provide intelligence support to the U.S. Military in Europe and in Africa, and in areas such as Afghanistan and Iraq in more recent times.

The CSIB is identical to the 66th’s Unit Patch. Its Unit Crest featurs the Brigade's motto of "Honor Valor and Security."
