The Army introduced the Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) along with the blue Army Service Uniform, intending for the new accouterment to serve at least part of the function of color version of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia worn on the Army Green Uniform. Followings its redesignation from a Group to a Brigade in 1985, the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade was sent to Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of Task Force Eagle about a decade later in 1995 and then to Germany the following year. As a "Vanguard Of Vigilance" (the unit motto), its mission there was to provide intelligence from operating bases in Germany and Italy to V Corps and the ongoing Joint and Combined Operations in the Balkans.
The Brigade was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, but scandalous behavior at the Abu Ghraib facility almost from the outset doomed the Brigade’s mission. In 2007, the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade was inactivated and cased its colors on 21 June 2007.
