The 205th Military Intelligence Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch) was authorized for wear on 6 August 1985. A fleur-de-lis serves as the insinia’s centerpiece, a tribute to the unit’s 1944 activation in France as the 205th Counter Corps Intelligence Deatachment. The fleur-de-lis is superimposed on a pair of crossed lighting bolts that are an allusion to the convergence of intelligence from all sources that make it possible for commanders to “see the big picture” in battle. Oriental blue and silver gray are the branch colors for Military Intelligence.
The 205 Military Intelligence Brigade (known as the "Vanguard of Vigilance" in latter years) took part in four named campaigns during World War II and eight in the Vietnam War. Its service as a training unit in the mid-1990s was recognized with an Army Superior Unit Award in the mid-1990s. Although it deployed to Iraq in support Operation Iraqi Freedom, it was caught up in the Abu-Ghraib prisons scandal and was subsequently inactivated on 21 June 2007.
