U.S. ARMY 155TH ARMORED BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team is taken from its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia which was approved in February 1974. A lightning flash on a wavy bend symbolizes both the firepower wielded by the Brigade and its home state of Mississippi, represented here by a stylized version of the Mississippi River. Green and yellow are associated with Armored units.

Nicknamed “Dixie Thunder,” the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team was mobilized in 199 to deploy in support of the First Gulf War, but the Army ultimately decided the Brigade was not needed for Operations Desert Shield or Desert Storm, leading to the Brigade’s demobilization in May 1991.

In January 2004, the Brigade was mobilized to support Operation Iraqi Freedom and this time did deploy to Southwest Asia. Serving under the II Marine Expeditionary Force, the Brigade—which at the time was called a Heavy Brigade Combat Team or Brigade Combat Team (Heavy)—suffered 15 killed over the course of its year-and-a-half tour of duty. Subsequent deployments came in 2009 and in 2018, but as of June 2019 the Brigade has yet to be honored with campaign participation credits for the Global War on Terrorism.
