U.S. ARMY 155TH ARMORED BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM PATCH (SSI)

Nicknamed “Dixie Thunder” because of its origins in the Deep South, the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team was originally constituted as the 108th Armored Cavalry Group in the Mississippi Army National Guard on 16 March 1951. It wasn’t until 15 February 1968 that it was reorganized and redesignated as 1st Brigade, 30th Armored Division that it became a true Armored unit; it was relieved from assignment to the 30th Armored Division in 1973 when it was redesignated as the 155th Armored Brigade. It became the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team in 2006 as part of the Army’s reorganization that made the brigade the primary maneuver unit.

The 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved on 21 February 1974. The green and yellow of the color version now worn with the Army Green Service Uniform are the colors associated with Armored units, and the lightning flash represents the striking power of the Armored Brigade Combat Team. The wavy bend recalls the Mississippi River, near the unit’s home base.
