U.S. NAVY LOGISTICS SPECIALIST (LS) BALL CAP DEVICE

Established in 1916, the Storekeeper (SK) rating was, to a large degree, a Logistics Specialist before the term existed. As the overseers of ship or company supplies, their duties covered all aspects of the supply chain: purchasing, procurement, receiving and shipping, inventory tracking, and dispensing clothing, supplies, materials, and any other items coming through the Naval Supply System. Storekeepers were trained at the Naval Technical Training Center Meridian, Mississippi, but non-rate sailors could strike for the SK rating, bypassing the training school.

In 2003, SKs were merged with and assumed the duties of the Aviation Storekeeper (AK) rating, adding the job of ordering, tracking, and disbursing material, equipment, clothing, and any other aviation-related items. The newly defined SK rating lasted until 2009, when it and the Postal Clerk (PC) rating were merged, appropriately enough, with the Logistics Specialist (LS) rating.
