U.S. ARMY 359TH SIGNAL BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Orange and white, official Signal Corps branch colors since 1902, are used throughout the 359th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia—also known as a unit crest or a DUI—to reflect the organization’s status as a Signal Corps unit.  A yellow diamond with a wide green interior border and a blue disc in its center is both adopted and adapted from the Brazilian national flag, and serves as a reminder of the unit’s service there between 1944 and 1945. Scarlet bands on the left and right between the words “Command Communicate” (from the unit motto) are a reminder of a Meritorious Unit Commendation it was subsequently awarded for its service in Brazil, while the lightning flash connotes the speed and accuracy of modern electronic communications.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 359th Tactical Theater Signal Brigade was originally constituted as HQ and HQ Detachment, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 359th Signal Service Battalion on 10 October 1944 and activated on 1 November 1944 in Brazil. It was awarded an uninscribed American Theater Streamer for its contributions to victory in World War II and was inactivated in Brazil in October 1945.

It was allotted to the Army Reserve at the same time it was redesignated as HQ and HQ Detachment, 350th Signal Group in September 1955 and activated on 1 November 1955. A five-year inactivation from March 1963 to January 1968 followed before the unit was reorganized and redesignated as HQ and HQ Company, 359th Signal Group on 15 March 1972. It received its current designation as HQ and HQ Company, 359th Signal Brigade on 16 September 1987.

Since the inception of the War on Terrorism, the Brigade deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and earned credit for participation in the Consolidation III campaign, as well as a Meritorious Unit Commendation. As of Autumn 2023, the 359th Signal Brigade remains an Army Reserve unit, a subordinate of the 335th Theater Signal Command. It is headquartered at Fort Gordon, Georgia
