First Sergeant (E-8) shoulder sleeve rank insignia is manufactured in large (men) and small (women) sizes, with gold or green chevrons embroidered onto scarlet or khaki material. A distinctive version based on Marine Corps chevron design from the 1890s is mandated for wear on the SNCO Evening Dress jacket (SNCOs are the lowest enlisted rank authorized an Evening Dress uniform).
After choosing a size, use the Finish selection box to the right to select the appropriate chevron color combination for your Dress, Service, or Evening Dress jacket.
Gold on Red: Gold chevrons on scarlet material are worn on the Blue Dress coat.
Green on Red: Green chevrons on a scarlet background are worn on the Service uniform coat.
Green on Khaki: Long- and short-sleeve khaki shirts.
SNCO: SNCO Evening Dress jacket.
First Sergeant chevrons are worn centered on the outer half of both sleeves of all jackets, coats, and shirt sleeves. On jackets, coats, and the long-sleeve khaki shirt, they are positioned so the top of the insignia is three inches below the shoulder seam. The insignia is centered vertically between the shoulder seam and the bottom of the sleeve on men’s short-sleeve khaki shirts, while women center the insignia between the seam and peak of the cuff on their short-sleeve shirts.
