USAF MAJOR SHOULDER MARKS

Shoulder boards for U.S. Air Force Majors are inserted over the epaulets on long- and short-sleeve shirts or blouses worn with Men%u2019s and Women%u2019s Service Dress, Semi-Formal Dress, Blue Service, and Maternity uniforms. The only Mess uniform on which shoulder marks are worn is the Maternity Mess Dress, in which case the blouse%u2019s epaulets are buttoned over the jumper so the shoulder marks are not obscured. Shoulder marks are also worn by Officers on the pullover sweater, blue or white cardigan sweater, and the topcoat.

Use the selection boxes to the right to choose a size and insignia material for your shoulder marks. Both the embroidered and bullion insignias meet or surpass all Mil-Spec and Air Force regulations, but the crisp lines and lustrous finish of the bullion make it well worth the extra cost.

Along with Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel, the rank of Major (O-4) is one of three Officer grades classified as Field-Grade in the Air Force; a silver braid is added to the wide end of each Field-Grade shoulder mark as a way to instantly distinguish it from lower Company-Grade Officer ranks (1st/2nd Lieutenant and Captain).
