The design of the United States Army Forces Command Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, was originally approved as a Shoulder Sleeve Insignia by General Headquarters, American Expeditionary Force on 7 February 1919, with official approval coming from The Adjutant General on 17 June 1922.
Following a change in wear guidance in July 1941 that mandated the insignia be worn so that the blue bar was uppermost, the insignia was redesignated three times in less than fifteen years: in March 1942 (for Army Ground Forces), on 11 May 1948 (Army Field Forces), and on 9 September 1955 (for Continental Army Command). The insignia was finally designated for U.S. Army Forces Command with an effective date of 1 July 1973.
One of four Commands that report directly to Headquarters, Department of the Army, Forces Command comprises more than 750,000 Soldiers in the Active Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve, making it the largest United States Army Command.
