U.S. ARMY FORCES COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) was established in 1973 as part of the reorganization of the United Sates Army. It replaced the Continental Army Command and was given oversight of all operational divisions and Strategic Army Force units in the continental United States, as well as all Army Reserve units. At the time, FORSCOM represented around 60 percent of total U.S. Army strength, with almost a quarter-million active-duty troops and some 600,00 Reserve Soldiers, augmented by 37,000 civilians.

FORSCOM now comprises over 750,000 Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard soldiers, with major subordinate commands including First United States Army, I Corps, III Corps, XVIII Airborne Corps, Security Force Assistance Command, 20th Support Command CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and high-yield Explosive), and the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command.

The United States Army Forces Command Distinctive Unit Insignia features the Command's motto, "Freedom's Guardian," on a scroll over three swords representing the three components of the Total Army: Active, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard. The swords are a symbol of protection and guardianship and are depicted unsheathed with point up denotes readiness for combat.

Armed Forces Command is headquartered at Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg) in North Carolina.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
