U.S. ARMY AIR TRAFFIC SERVICES COMMAND COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The Air Traffic Services Command Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) uses the same design as the Command’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was approved on 31 October 2003, almost two months to the day after the Command was formally activated on 28 August 2003.

An ultramarine blue field and the orange wings of the phoenix incorporate the two colors of the Aviation Corps into the insignia, which has a spearhead shape adapted from the Special Operations Command insignia as an allusion to Air Traffic Service’s role in tactical missions; it also suggests the forward thrust motion of Army Aviation assets.

The mythological phoenix is a bird that arises anew from the ashes after being consumed by fire, symbolizing the rebirth of Air Traffic Services into the Command. A globe references the worldwide scope of the Command’s mission, as well as its sphere of influence. The lightning flash denotes Army readiness and symbolizes the striking speed of the Command’s Signal Corps background.

Air Traffic Services Command comprises three brigades and is based at Fort Novosel (formerly named Fort Rucker) in Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence.
