Introduced along with the Army Service Uniform (ASU) which was set to replace the Class A Green Service uniform that had been worn since the mid-1950s, the Combat Service ID Badge is the ASU’s rough equivalent of the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, that was worn on the left sleeve of the “Army Greens.” It is a metal badge rather than a cloth patch and is worn on the right front of the ASU coat and Mess / Evening Mess jackets.
Unlike the colored unit patch, the CSIB does not necessarily reflect the wearer’s current unit, and Soldiers may be authorized more than one CSIB (though only one may be worn at any given time). pp. 331 through
333) for instructions on positioning and placement.
The 310th Sustainment Command Combat Service ID Badge uses the same insignia as on the unit patch, with the round center link of denoting the control that is exercised by the Command. Four outer links allude to the Command role as a support unit and serve to reinforce the unit motto of "Victory Through Support."
Headquartered in Indianapolis, the 307th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), or 310th ESC, is an Army Reserve unit that traces its root back to 1950 and the Reserve’s predecessor organization, the Organized Reserves. It is a subordinate unit of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command.
