Originally activated in England in March 1945, the 266th Finance Center was redesignated the 266th Finance Command in January 1994. Prior to the redesignation, the unit had moved to Germany, where it spent the last twenty-plus years of its existence providing finance accounting and support for American Soldiers serving in U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR). On 16 July 2008, the 266th Finance Command cased its colors for the final time in an historic ceremony: it was the last active Finance brigade in the US. Army.
The unit was replaced by the 266th Financial Management Center, which relocated from the Command’s home at Schwetzingen to Kaiserlautern to become a staff element of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command.
