The 219th Engineer Brigade Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, is a pin-on metal version of the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia originally approved for the 219th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade (BSB) on 1 September 2008. It was redesignated for the 219th Engineer Brigade following the reorganization and redesignation of the 219th BSB effective 14 October 2017.
A downward pointing arrowhead forms the basis of the insignia; it was adapted from the insignia create for the U.S. Army’s Recondo Schools, originally formed in the early 1960s with members of the 101st Airborne Rangers serving as instructors in small-unit tactics. Recondo schools were hosted by various organizations in the Army, including but not limited to the U.S. Military Academy, 5th and 25th Infantry Divisions, the 82nd Airborne Division, and Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV).
The three lightning bolts in the insignia symbolize the three principle aspects of Battlefield Surveillance: Intelligence, Reconnaissance, and Surveillance. A black sword outlined in yellow represents the military aspect of the unit’s mission, emphasizing the need for stealth while at the same time displaying a willingness to support the front-line action as needed.
