U.S. ARMY 153RD FIELD ARTILLERY BRIGADE COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade was activated in 2010 when it was formed through the reorganization and redesignation of the 98th Troop Command, but the insignia found on its Combat Service ID Badge was worn not only the 98th Troop Command, but also the 153rd Field Artillery Brigade, which traces its origins to the organization of the Cannon Company, 158th Infantry in the Canal Zone of Panama and its allotment to the Arizona National Guard. The unit was created in Federal service, and was swiftly deployed to fight in WWII. Its first combat deployment was in the American Theater, in the Canal Zone jungles, near the Panama Canal. It was there that it earned its Combat Service Identification Badge (CSIB), which is awarded only to units that have seen actual combat.

After it finished its mission in Panama, the 158th was shipped out to fight in the Philippines, New Guinea, and Luzon. For its actions on the Eastern Front of WWII the 158th was awarded a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. In 1946 the unit was deactivated in Japan, but was reorganized and reactivated in 1948 in Glendale, and reorganized later that same year.

In 1963 the unit was made into an element of the 258th Separate Infantry Brigade, which was later re-named the 258th Infantry Brigade. The 158th was relieved from its assignment to the 258th and was remade into the 1583rd Military Police Battalion. Two years after this, it was redesignated as the 157th Military Police Battalion. In 1976 the unit was converted from the military police to the 153d Field Artillery Group. The unit took on its current designation of the 153rd Field Artillery Brigade in 1978. The unit moved its Home Station to Phoenix in 1991.

The 153rd Field Artillery Brigade was reorganized and redesignated as the 98th Troop Command in 2006. In September 2010 the unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. Both the 98th TC and the 158th Maneuver Enhancement were assigned the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Combat Service ID Badge worn by the 153rd Field Artillery Brigade, but these units did not inherit their lineage dating back to the 158th Infantry; the color scheme also changed for the 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade so the background was blue for Infantry rather than red for Artillery.

The 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade was also given its own Distinctive Unit Insignia (unit crest) featuring the unit motto "We Can We Do." Use the links to view it and other Brigade insignia.
