U.S. ARMY 153RD FIELD ARTILLERY BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 153rd Field Artillery Brigade represents the unit's mission and history, particularly during the Second World War. It earned three campaign streamers while serving as the Cannon Company, 158th Infantry, one uninscribed for service in the the American Theater (the Canal Zone jungles in Panama) and two in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater (New Guinea and Luzon).  These three campaigns are represented by the three cannonballs in the center of the crest. The cannonballs are also a reference to the unit’s creation as a Cannon Company in the Arizona National Guard.

The sea lion on the cannonballs is a symbol of the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation the unit earned in WWII. The red flame behind all of this acts as a reference to two fiery landings it conducted on the isles of the Philippines during WWII. This is also where the unit gets its motto, “Tormenta De Fuego.” This translates into English as “Storm of Fire,” and can be seen on the crest itself embroidered on the black outlying script.

The primary colors used in the crest are the scarlet of the fire and gold/yellow. These colors generally denote a unit associated with Field Artillery. A unit crest was first issued to the unit in 1979, when the unit took on its current designation of the 153rd Field Artillery Brigade. That crest was cancelled in 1998 and the current crest simultaneously authorized.
