U.S. ARMY 143RD SUSTAINMENT COMMAND COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The 143rd Sustainment Command’s fifty-plus years of service begins in November 1967 and its constitution in the U.S. Army Reserve as the 143rd Transportation Brigade. Activated more than a year later on 2 January 1968, the 143rd served for almost two decades before being redesignated as the 143rd Transportation Command in 1985, making it the only echelon above corps Transportation command unit in the entirety of the US Army Reserves.

After the September 11th attacks, elements of the 143rd were ordered into active military service, and sent to Kuwait to support Operation Enduring Freedom and later on, Operation Iraqi Freedom. This lasted until 2007, when the elements of the unit that were actively serving the US military were withdrawn from Kuwait after handing over control of their duties to the next logistical units and reverted back to state-controlled status. Later in the same year, in the United States, the unit was reorganized and converted into its current designation of the 143rd Sustainment Command. The unit also served in the active US military for a year in 2009, before reverting back to the control of the states in 2010. Beginning in 2013, the 143rd Sustainment Command again went into active military service in the Middle-East once again as part of the War on Terror.

For its superior service during those deployments, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 143rd Sustainment Command was awarded three Meritorious Unit Commendations, the last one for service between August 2013 and May 2014. It is also credited with participation in two campaigns in Afghanistan in the War on Terrorism, Consolidation I and Consolidation II.

As of Spring 2022, the Command—also known as the 143rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command to reflect its role when called to active military service during wartime or in support of overseas contingency expeditions—remains allotted to the United States Army Reserve. When not called to active service, the Command is assigned to the 377th Theater Sustainment Command.
