U.S. ARMY 4TH SUSTAINMENT COMMAND (EXPEDITIONARY) PATCH (SSI)

Allocated to the United States Army Reserve, the 4th Sustainment Command Expeditionary was originally constituted in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 4th Logistical Command on 16 January 1952, and over the next 15 years it underwent a mind-numbing sequence of seemingly activations/inactivations and inconsequential redesignations that all culminated in “4th Logistical Command.”

It became 4th Support Center in 1975 was activated at Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), was redesignated as the 4th Material Management Center Corps Support Command (COSCOM) in 1989, then reverted back to the 4th Support Center in 2000. After inactivation on 15 September 2007, the unit was withdrawn from the Regular Army and allotted to the Army Reserve on 29 November 2007, finally receiving its current designation of 4th Sustainment Command on 16 October 2008. It was honored with a Meritorious Unit Commendation award for it service in Afghanistan in 2011, which was added to its two campaign streamers from the Southwest Asia conflict (Defense of Saudi Arabia, Liberation and Defense of Kuwait).

As of Summer 2023, the 4th Sustainment Command remains an Army Reserve unit assigned to the 377th Theater Sustainment Command. Its Headquarters and Headquarters Company is located at Fort Sam Houston at Joint Base San Antonio.

The 4th Sustainment Command Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, features four arrows arranged in a crosshatch pattern, symbolizing the Command’s ability to provide support to the four corners of the earth and suggesting its numerical designation.
