U.S. ARMY 4TH SUSTAINMENT COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

In the Distinctive Unit Insignia of 4th Sustainment Command, we find two find scimitar handles separating the words of the unit's motto, “Leaders In Logistics;” these represent the Command's two campaigns ribbons (Defense of Saudi Arabia and the Liberation and Defense of Kuwait). The four sections of the square, which itself recalls a shipping container holding the materiel necessary for warfighting, are a nod to the unit's numerical designation (much like the four arrows in the Command's CSIB, or Combat Service Identification Badge).  A flame at the top of the crest is a symbol of leadership guiding the way for successful combat.

This insignia was originally approved on 18 September 1997 for the 4th Corps Materiel Management Center. It was redesignated for the 4th Support Center with an effective date of 1 October 2000 before it was given its current designation, with updated symbolism appropriate for the 4th Sustainment Command, on 16 October 2008.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
