U.S. ARMY 352ND CIVIL AFFAIRS COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Commonly referred to as a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 352nd Civil Affairs Command that was approved on 23 December 1976 borrows heavily from the Civil Affairs branch insignia. The scroll and sword represent the rule of law and the authority to enforce it, while the globe with lines of latitude longitude reflect the Command’s ability to carry out operations anywhere in the world.

An upright sword recalls the appearance of the Washington Monument, a reminder that the Command was originally activated in Washington, D.C and was headquartered there for almost four years before moving to its current location in Riverdale, Maryland. The inscription “NON ENSE SOLUM,” or “Not by the sword alone,” is a reminder of all the non-military aspects of Civil Affairs, from public administration and utility service to commerce, education, and economics. The laurel wreaths are a symbol of excellence.

As of Winter 2024, the 352nd Civil Affairs Command is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command. It is headquartered at Fort Meade in Maryland and consists of the 354th and 360th Civil Affairs Brigades.
