The date of approval for the Headquarters, 325th Infantry Regiment beret flash and oval, the latter officially designated as Airborne background trimming, is not readily available, but the same insignias for the Regiment’s 1st and 2nd Battalions were approved between late 2005 and early to mid-2006. Today, the 325th Infantry Regiment Headquarters beret flash and oval are worn by personnel in the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
Also called an organizational flash because it represents a specific unit or organization, the flash is worn centered on the stiffener of the maroon beret that has been authorized for wear by personnel in Airborne-designated units since 1981. Officers wear their nonsubdued rank insignia centered on the flash, while Enlisted personnel wear the 325th Infantry Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, or unit crest.
Airborne background trimming is worn by Regimental personnel who have earned a Parachutist or Air Assault badge. The main portion of the badge is centered on the oval so the outer edge of the embroidered insignia creates a trim or border around the badge (although the star and wreathed star of the Senior and Master Parachutist badges will project past the edge of the oval). With the bade attached in this fashion, the combination is worn by all personnel on Service Uniform coats and shirts and by female Soldiers on the green or blue Army Maternity Tunic.
Rules regarding the wear and positioning of the oval-badge combination vary by uniform type. Please refer to Chapter 21-32, subsection (b) for detailed instructions regarding the maximum number and types of badges permitted for each uniform and how to determine their placement. When measuring distances such as between badges, ribbons, pocket flaps, etc., use the outer edge of the oval (and the top of the star or wreath for the Senior and Master Parachutist badges).
