U.S. ARMY 10TH PERSONNEL COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 10th Personnel Command Distinctive Unit Insignia—commonly called a unit crest or DUI—was approved on 14 March 1991. In its center is a saltire (x) that symbolizes strength and support while simultaneously simulating the Roman numeral “X” for 10, the unit’s numerical designation. Palm fronts bookending the saltire stand for victory, and the upright, unsheathed sword superimposed over the saltire and between the fronds denotes the individual Warfighter ready for combat. The unit motto “Serving Soldiers” epitomizes the functions of a Personnel unit.

Very little history of he 10th Personnel Command is readily available in a form that can be readily or easily accessed by the public. The unit definitely served in the First Gulf War, earning campaign streamers for the Defense of Saudi Arabia and Liberation and Defense of Kuwait campaigns. Its Headquarters and Headquarters Company was also awarded an Army Superior Unit Award for service during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm (29 August 1990 to 20 May 1991). It appears to have been inactivated in 1992.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
