U.S. ARMY 10TH PERSONNEL COMMAND PATCH (SSI)

The 10th Personnel Command Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch) was approved on 26 February 1991, just two days before President George Bush declared a ceasefire in Operation Desert Storm—the conflict for which the Command had been tailor-made. Organized in 1990, the Command would be inactivated in 1992, having earned credit for participating in all three of the Southwest Asia Campaigns (Defense of Saudi Arabia, Liberation of Kuwait, Cease-Fire).

10th Personnel Command was the largest military human-resources unit deployed to support ground combat since World War II. Organized from a core group of active-component personnel, the Command was augmented by significant numbers of Army Reserve members. Other Command personnel were drawn from the 701t Personnel Services Company and the 324th Personnel and Administration Battalion; the 815th Personnel Services Company managed the theater’s personnel locator and maintained casualty records, 351st Postal Company tracked down misdirected mail, and the 344th Data Process Unit ran the personnel database.

A red saltire in the 10th Personnel Command unit patch represents the strength and support provided by the organization, while the upraised sword indicates military readiness and the importance of every Soldier in the Command; the sword is gold to symbolize excellence and superior achievement.
