U.S. ARMY AVIATION LOGISTICS SCHOOL UNIT CREST (DUI)

The U.S. Army Aviation Logistics Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was approved on 22 March 1985. It is composed of two distinct elements: a gold, arched scroll with the School motto “Support And Sustain” inscribed in the Army Aviation branch color of ultramarine blue, and a shield with a background also in ultramarine blue featuring a pair of spread wings in golden orange—secondary branch color of the Aviation Corps—surmounted over a checkered chevron and enwrapping a golden compass rose.

The Aviation mission of the School is illustrated with the wings and the checkered pattern on the chevron which alludes to logistics and materiel; the chevron itself is a traditional heraldic symbol of support.

Additionally, the colors used for the checkered pattern, brick red and golden yellow, are the colors of the Transportation Corps to reflect the School’s association with that branch. The compass rose reflects the fact that the school’s mission ultimately involves global support for the Army’s Aviation assets.

The shield symbolizes the school's aviation mission by depicting wings and a checkered pattern alluding to logistics and materiel, on a chevron symbolic of support. Ultramarine blue and golden orange are the colors of the Army Aviation branch. The checkered chevron incorporating the transportation colors refers to the school's association with that branch. The compass rose at center suggests the global mission of the school.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap" respectively.

Today’s Aviation Logistics School was originally based at Fort Eustis, Virginia and designated as the U.S. Army Transportation and Aviation Logistics School. On 1 October 1988, Aviation Logistics Training was removed from the Transportation School hosted at Fort Eustis, given the designation U.S. Army Aviations Logistics School USAALS, and placed under the command and control of the U.S. Army Aviation Center and Fort Rucker. In September 2011, the decision was made that USAALS would transform into a training brigade, and on 1 February 2012 the 128th Aviation Brigade was activated. As of Winter 2024, the Brigade is based at Fort Novosel, the name given to Fort Rucker when it was redesignated in 2023.
