U.S. ARMY 337TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Oriental blue and silver gray, branch colors of both the Military Intelligence Corps and its forerunner the Army Intelligence and Security branch, are used heavily in the 337th Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia.

Crossed lighting flashes also in the branch color of oriental blue are an allusion to electronic equipment employed by MI units and the speed it provides in acquiring, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence, reinforcing the electronic warfare and Signals intelligence capabilities of the unit. Black wings attached to a dagger are symbols of the role military intelligence plays in overall military preparedness; they also denote the Battalion’s Airborne status that is also represented by the Battalion’s organizational beret flash and background trimming  for Parachutist and Air Assault badges.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."

The 337th Military Intelligence Battalion was constituted in the Organized Reserve Corps—today's Army Reserve—as the 337th Headquarters (HQ) Intelligence Detachment on 14 May 1948. Activated on 2 June 1948 at New York, New York, the unit was subsequently reorganized on 6 July 1950 as a Battalion and given its current designation of 337th Military Intelligence Battalion.

The Battalion began a thirty-five year stretch of inactivation on 20 February 1953 that ended on 16 September 1988 not only with its reactivation, but also its redesignation as HQ and HQ Service Company, 337th Military Intelligence Battalion and a relocation from New York to Charlotte, North Carolina.

When in Reserve status, the Battalion is a component of the 648th Regional Support Group, Military Intelligence Readiness Command. As of June 2021, the Battalion is assigned to the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade and headquartered at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. The 207th Military Intelligence Brigade is serving as U.S. Africa Command’s Theater Intelligence Brigade and is under the command and control of U.S. Army Africa.
