U.S. ARMY 192ND INFANTRY BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Inactivated in 2013, the 192nd Infantry Brigade’s history can be divided into World War II service in combat and post-World War II service as a training brigade. Originally formed in 1921 with the 192nd Infantry Brigade Designation, the unit was redesignate as the 96th Reconnaissance Troop, an element of the 96th Infantry Division, and took part in two campaigns in the Pacific Theater during World War II; it was also awarded a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for its service there. The unit motto, “Take The High Ground,” originated during its service in World War II and is used here on its Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest.

The unit was inactivated in 1946 and was dormant for some 60-plus years until its 2007 reactivation at Fort Benning, Georgia (renamed Fort Moore in October 2023). For the next six years, the 192nd was responsible for Basic Combat Training of new Soldiers. Upon its final inactivation, the actual units of the Brigade were transferred to the 194th Armored Brigade, which handles the One Station Unit Training for Tank and Cavalry Scout Units as well as Basic Combat Training for all incoming Soldiers regardless of branch.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam (DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however).

For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap" respectively
