Designed for wear with the CPO Cutlass the United States Navy introduced in September 2012, this belt is made with black leather and features an adjustable shoulder harness for a comfortable fit. The harness is worn diagonally over the wearer’s right shoulder; when positioned properly, neither the belt nor the harness should be visible under the dress coat. Other components of the CPO Cutlass ensemble include a gold-colored buckle with interlocking fasteners and the appropriate rank CPO rank insignia (
E-7,
E-8, and
E-9), a matching leather scabbard with gold ends, and a leather frog custom-designed to fit the scabbard.
The Navy introduced the CPO Cutlass to create a standardized appearance for members of official parties at ceremonies calling for Commissioned Officers to wear their swords. In keeping with that goal, regulations specify that the CPO Cutlass may be worn only if all CPOs serving as members of the official party wear them.
