U.S. ARMY MILITARY SURFACE DEPLOYMENT AND DISTRIBUTION COMMAND PATCH (SSI)

The U.S. Army Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Patch, officially referred as a Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Military Operations in Hostile Conditions insignia (SSI-MOHC), was originally approved for the Military Traffic Management and Terminal Service on 17 August 1965. It was then redesignated for the Military Traffic Management Command on 10 December 1974, a designation it retained for nearly three full decades. It was given its current designation for the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, along with an updated description, on 1 January 2004.

A green disc recalls the “Go” signal utilized for controlling traffic associated with land transport (green is the universal color code for “go”), but it also symbolizes the “Can Do” attitude of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (MSDDC) in managing traffic, land transportation, and common-user ocean terminal service.

An upward arrow is an allusion to the military nature of the organization, recalling arrows used to denote advances on military maps as well Airborne and Amphibious assault landings; it is also a symbol of the speed at which the MSDDC accomplishes its missions. Its three prongs correspond to the three military departments within the Department of Defense and the joint aspects of both its responsibilities and personnel.

The MSDDC is the United States Army Service Component of the United States Transportation Command and is also a major subordinate U.S. Army Materiel Command. It is a global intermodal service connector and frequently partners with our nation’s commercial transportation industry, coordinating the industry’s capabilities with the Department of Defense’s surface transportation requirement.
