Used to secure the black chinstrap on the Service Cap, these 27-line black screw-post buttons feature the instantly recognizable Eagle, Globe, and Anchor—first officially codified as “the sole emblem of the United States Marine Corps” in the 1876 edition of the USMC Uniform Regulations—surrounded by thirteen five-pointed stars, hearkening back to a button design used at the start of the 19
th century but with six-pointed stars and no globe.
For enlisted personnel, the removable buttons on the Service and Dress Caps allows them to use a single cap frame to create two different caps; all that’s necessary are the two types of cap covers (white and green) and these buttons along with a pair of gold buttons for wear on the Service cap. It’s also a good idea to keep an extra pair of both types of buttons on hands in case any are misplaced or become chipped or damaged.
