COLORADO ARMY NATIONAL GUARD ELEMENT, JOINT FORCE HQ UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The shield found on the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the Colorado Army National Guard Element, Joint Force Headquarters is adapted from the State Seal of Colorado or, to be more precise, from a shield found in the center of the State Seal. Three snow-capped, stylized peaks represent the mountainous terrain of the state, while the crossed tools of a pick-axe and a shovel symbolize the mining that played a vital role in the state’s economic development: the gold field upon which the tools are set allude to the state’s precious metal production. NIL SINE NUMINE, the state motto, is also found on the State Seal and is Latin for “Nothing Without Providence.”

This insignia was originally approved for the Colorado Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment and for the organization’s non-color bearing units on 3 May 1971. It was redesignated for the HQ, State Area Command, of the Colorado Army National Guard (ARNG) from 30 December 1983 until 1 October 2003, the date that it was given its current designation for the Colorado ARNG Element, Joint Force Headquarters.

Centennial, Colorado is the location of the Joint Force Headquarters of the Colorado National Guard.
