COLOARDO ARMY NATIONAL GUARD ELEMENT, JOINT FORCE HQ PATCH (SSI)

More commonly referred as a unit patch, the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia worn by Colorado Army National Guard (ARNG) serving at the Joint Force Headquarters (HQ) of the state’s National guard was originally authorized for HQ and HQ Detachment, Colorado National Guard on 4 November 1955. In December 1983, it was designated for HQ, State Area Command, Colorado ARNG and its description was concurrently amended. The insignia was again amended to update the description at the same time that it was redesignated for the Colorado ARNG Element of the Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) of the state's National Guard on 1 October 2003.

The design of the Colorado ARNG Element, JFHQ patch is based on the state flag that was adopted in March 1975. Starting from the insignia’s outside rings and moving inward, white is for the state’s snow-capped peaks; blue represents the clear skies, red denotes the ruddy color of the earth, and yellow/gold symbolizes the abundant sunshine enjoyed by the residents. Additionally, the red C recalls the state of Colorado.
