U.S. ARMY 300TH MILITARY POLICE BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 300th Military Police Brigade was originally constituted and activated in the U.S. Army Reserve as HHC, 300th Military Police Prisoner of War Command in April 1959. It was redesignated as HHC, 300th Military Police Command in June 1982, and nearly two decades would elapse before it received its current designation in October 2002.

The Brigade has been deployed overseas twice since it reached Brigade status, taking part in the Iraqi Surge campaign and earning a Meritorious Unit Commendation during its second call to active military service from October 2007 to November 2008. As of Autumn 2023, the Brigade remains allotted to the Army Reserve where it is assigned to the 200th Military Police Command.  It is headquartered in Inkster, Michigan.

Also referred to as a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 300th Military Police Brigade was approved on 8 January 1985 and was originally designed for and worn by the personnel of the 300th Military Police Command; some fifteen years would elapse before the Command was redesignated a Brigade on 9 January 2003 and the insignias was redesignated for it.

The key and the star both symbols of command control. The doorway-shape of the insignia implies the prisoner-of-war mission of the unit at the time the insignia was approved, and the number of POW camps the Command could service—up to ten—could be adduced by adding up the sides of the star. A trio of the letter “c” at the top is the numerical designation of the unit when the “c’s” are understood be Roman numeral for 100.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
