The motto of “Building Combat Power” is brought to artistic life
in the symbolism of the 20th Engineer Brigade’s Unit Crest, i.e., its Distinctive Unit Insignia. Two chevrons, typically emblems of authority, are intertwined to create the appearance of carpenters’ squares and placed over a sword, a symbol of the combat aspect of the brigade’s mission. Just as in the CSIB
, the scarlet and white colors associated with the Corps of Engineers make up the focal point of the image, in this case forming a heraldic saltire—a diagonal cross that denotes support and which is also used as to represent Brigades on military maps.
