U.S. ARMY 1ST THEATER SUSTAINMENT COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The speed and efficiency the 1st Theater Sustainment Command exhibits in fulfilling its mission is exemplified by the arrow that forms the centerpiece of its Distinctive Unit Insignia. The seven-pointed mullet (a mullet is a starlike symbol used in heraldry) stands for the seven continents and is a reminder of the Command’s ability to serve in any and all areas necessary. The Command's motto—"First"—is not found on the Combat Service Identification Badge (CSIB) for the unit, which utilizes the same design as the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia - Military Operations in Hostile Conditions insignia (SSI-MOHC), or unit patch.

Prior to being given its current designation for 1st Sustainment Command on 6 April 2006, this insignia had undergone numerous redesignations since its original approval on 19 April 1968 for the 1st Logistical Command. On 18 February 1971, the symbolism of its design was amended and it was redesignated for HQ and HQ Company and Special Troops, 1st Field Army Support Command. Just four months later, on 4 June 1971, it was redesignated for 1st Field Army Support Command, a designation it retained for over a year. It was then redesignated for 1st Corps Support Command on 8 September 1972, a designation that last more than eight years before it was given its next-to-last redesignation for 1st Support Command on 22 October 1980. Ironically, this designation would last longer than any other, with twenty-six years elapsing before the insignia was given its current designation in 2006.
