The 196th Field Artillery Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia–Military Operations in Hostile Conditions or SSI–MOHC, more commonly referred to as a unit patch or simply SSI, was approved on 23 January 1979. Until the introduction of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) in late 2018, this patch was designated as the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia–Former Wartime Service insignia, or SSI–FWTS. The color version of the patch was worn on the Army Green Uniform that was discontinued in October 2015, while the subdued version was worn on the Army Combat Uniform and other utility ensembles. But the arrival of the AGSU saw the color version of this insignia reauthorized for wear with it, but under a new name: Shoulder Sleeve Insignia – Military Operations in Hostile Conditions, or SSI – MOHC.
And the introduction of Operational Camouflage Pattern in 2016 to replace the old Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP) for the ACU meant a new subdued version of the patch had to be created. Although the UCP has been disallowed for wear by active Army personnel since 2019, please note that we offer both types of subdued uniforms in order to accommodate veterans seeking the cam pattern to match the ACU they wore while in service, so be sure to choose the correct version for your needs.
