USMC OFFICER SWORD LEATHER FROG

United States Marine Corps uniform regulations require the service sword frog to be worn whenever the sword is suspended from the leather service belt. The frog may be made with black leather or approved synthetic leather with either a high-glass (patent) or semi-gloss finish. It’s attached to the belt at the highest part of the hip bone, typically lining up with the seam of the uniform trousers/skirt/slacks.

The Marine Corps is unique among the uniformed services in that the sword may be prescribed for wear with every type of uniform except Evening Dress and Utility (although it may be worn with Utility uniforms when practicing sword manual or for parades or ceremonies. Sword lengths vary from 26 to 35 inches based upon sword position when held at the carry position—the tip of the blade cannot be more than one inch below or above eye level.
