Members of the United States Air Force’s Military Training Cadre and Non-Prior Service Airmen are authorized to wear shoulder cords and aiguillettes, uniform accouterments typically associated either with service in a ceremonial unit or as an aide or attachés. These personnel fall under the command of Second Air Force, and the various colors and color combinations—ten in all—that are authorized for cords and aiguillettes was updated in December 2018 by Commander, Second Air Force in a Memorandum for Initial Skills Military Training Units.
Airmen training for the Drum and Bugle Corps or Fife and Drum Corps wear either white and navy blue or silver and navy blue shoulder cords with any authorized utility uniform combination, blue shirt, and the fleece jacket. The cord is attached under the collar near the left shoulder seam or on the left shoulder board button on the blue shirt.
Aiguillettes in the same color combos are worn on the Blue Service or Mess Dress jackets and are worn grounded to the left shoulder seam, but they are an optional-wear item.
