Auxiliarists who have been elected or appointed to organization leadership positions in the Coast Guard Auxiliary such as Flotilla Commander (FC) are authorized to wear cap insignia designating their officer on Garrison Caps, Auxiliary ball caps, and Coast Guard ball caps.
The same size as the collar device, the FC leadership-position insignia is worn with the letter “A” vertically upright on the wearer’s right of the Garrison Cap. It is positioned so that its center is two inches from the front crease and one-and-a-half inches from the bottom (note: please consult COMDTINST M16790.1G, Auxiliary Manual for official guidance on insignia placement). A small version of the Auxiliary cap device worn on the Combination cap is placed on the wearer’s left using the same guidance.
On the two types of ball caps, Flotilla Commanders may wear only the leadership-position insignia. It is centered between the two inscriptions on the hats, e.g., “U.S. COAST GUARD” and “AUXILIARY,” or “U.S. COAST GUARD” and “USCGC BERTHOLF.”
