Coast Guard Auxiliarists who have been appointed to serve as Division Staff Officers (SO) are authorized to wear the insignia reflecting their organizational leadership position on several types of headgear, including the Garrison Cap, Auxiliary ball cap, and United States Coast Guard unit ball cap.
When wearing the Garrison Cap, SOs place the leadership-position insignia—a single silver bar mounted with a red “A” reflecting the fact the were appointed to the position by an elected Auxiliary official—on the wearer’s right side. On the wearer’s left, a small version of he Auxiliary cap device worn on the Combination Cap is mounted; both the insignia and cap device are placed so their centers are two inches from the front crease and one-and-a-half inches from the bottom of the cap.
For the Auxiliary and USCG unit ball caps, only the insignia designating organizational leadership position is worn, centered between the two primary lines of text—“U.S. COAST GUARD” and “AUXILIARY” on the Auxiliary cap, for instance.
