U.S. ARMY 678TH PERSONNEL SERVICES BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 678th Personnel Services Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 8 August 1995. Its dark blue shield and scarlet lightning flash and annulet are the colors associated units in Personnel Services, while the white used for the quill pen, motto text, and trim (lightning flash, shield and annulet) denoting integrity. The quill pen is a symbol of administrative excellence, and the lighting flash is an emblem of speedy service while adhering to the unit motto, “Raising The Standard.”

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Originally constituted as the 678th Personnel Service Company in the Army Reserve on 24 November 1967 and activated on 31 January 1968, the 678th Personnel Service Battalion was ordered into active military service twice under that original designation; it would not become a Battalion until it was reorganized and redesignated on 17 October 1994. Called into active military service in the early days of the Global War on Terrorism, the Battalion was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation in August 2008 for it service while assigned to HQ and HQ Company, 3rd Personnel Command between August 2002 and April 2004.

On 16 September 2008, the Battalion was again reorganized and redesignated, this time as the 678th Personnel Company. There is almost no readily available information on this unit, and it also appears likely that the unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 678th Human Resources Company; in any event, no units with those designations appear to be active as of Autumn 2023.
