The 640th Aviation Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was originally approved on 1 August 2001 for the 640th Support Battalion. Its azure (ultramarine blue) shield contains a pair of tenné (orange) arrowheads, incorporating the two colors of units associated with Army Aviation. Its ties to the 240th Support Battalion are commemorated by the golden sunburst, the aforementioned arrowheads, and a taeguk, a Korean symbol that is highly similar to the more commonly referenced yin-yang symbol.
Four flagstones denote the four campaigns in the Korean War for which the consolidated unit was awarded campaign streamers; they also allude to stepping stones to achievements, both present and past, which help define the Battalion. Scarlet is used throughout the design to represent sacrifice and courage, while gold is a symbol of excellence and high achievement. "Forward And Above" is the Battalion motto.

The 640th Aviation Support Battalion was most recently recognized for exceptional military service in January 2012, when its Headquarters and Support Company and its subordinate units (Companies A, B, and C) were awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service between 19 February 2011 and 4 November 2011 in support of the Global War on Terrorism during Operation New Dawn. Specifically, the Battalion was lauded for its “intelligent use of its resources to maximize aviation support throughout the Iraq Joint Operations Area while in support of a Combat Aviation Brigade and a Theater Aviation Brigade that covered all the aerial space for the country of Iraq.”
As of Autumn 2023, the Battalion is assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 40th Infantry Division, California Army National Guard. It is headquartered at Fresno, California.
