Officially approved on 29 March 2006 for the 635th Support Battalion, this Distinctive Unit Insignia or DUI (more commonly referred to as a “unit crest”) is now worn by personnel in the 635th Regional Support Group, a major command in the Kansas Army National Guard. In addition to its HQ and HQ Detachment, the Group comprises the 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation; 1st Battalion, 635th Armor Regiment; and the 891st Engineer Battalion. The Group is headquartered at Hutchinson, Kansas.
The insignia celebrates our nation with the national colors of red, white, and blue, with a large white star serving as a reference to a newly formed unit comprised of diverse elements that form the command component, much as the United States as formed from diverse elements to create a new, unified whole. Additionally, the five points of the star stand for the five major elements of logistics upon which effective Support depends: Maintenance, Supply, Transportation, Facilities, and Service.
An upright red cannon serves as a reminder that the 635th Regional Support Group was created through the reorganization of the 35th Division Artillery. A blue chevron is a symbol of support, with the color implying devotion, loyalty, constancy, and service in World War II. A golden sunflower in the very center of the insignia symbolizes the unit’s home state of Kansas, widely known as the “Sunflower State.”
SUSTENTO VICTORIA, the Group motto, is Latin for “Supporting Victory.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
