The 421st Quartermaster Company beret flash and background trimming (oval) were both approved on 11 September 2008. Worn on the maroon beret that denotes the 421st Quartermaster Company’s Airborne status, the flash is centered on the beret stiffener so that the flash appears directly above the left eye when the headgear is worn properly.
Officers (except Chaplains) wear the insignia of rank centered on the flash. If their unit has an approved Distinctive Unit Insignia, NCOs and Junior Enlisted Soldiers wear the it centered on the flash; a Regimental Distinctive Insignia is used instead if the unit lacks a DUI. The Sergeant Major of the Army (along with the office’s personnel) and certain Command Sergeants Major wear collar insignia in lieu of DUI/RDI.
The oval is worn behind the Parachutist or Air Assault Badge, with the combination of the two items counting as one for purposes of measurement and when referring to placement rules. All personnel who are authorized to wear the Parachutist or Air Assault Badge can wear it with the oval on Service Uniform Coats (ASU or AGSU) and Service Uniform Shirts. Female Soldiers also have the option to wear the oval-badge combo on the green or blue Army Maternity Tunic.
