The 373rd Support Battalion was first constituted in the Army Reserve as HQ and HQ Company, 373rd Supply and Service Battalion on 15 March 1972 and activated at Beaumont, Texas. It was reorganized and redesignated as HQ and HQ Detachment, 373rd Support Battalion on 16 April 1994. After 14 months of active military service between January 2003 and March 2004, it reverted to its Reserve status, and on 17 September 2006 it was reorganized and redesignated as HQ and HQ Company, 373rd Support Battalion. It was called into active military service at Beaumont, Texas on 11 February 2010 and did not revert back to its Reserve status until 17 March 2011. During its most recent overseas deployment in 2017, the Battalion had units assigned to it from all across the United States, including but not limited to Kansas, Mississippi, Iowa, Alabama, and Florida, to assist in the Presidentially directed drawdown of forces in Iraq.
As of Autumn 2023, it is serving under the designation 373rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB) and is assigned to the 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 103rd Sustainment Command. The unit’s mission of providing logistics for frontline Soldiers is emphasized with the unit motto “Strength For Battle” and reinforced with the image of a double-warded key on the 373rd Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.
