Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 373rd Quartermaster Battalion was approved on 15 August 1997. Its blue gold and light blue colors should be familiar to Quartermaster personnel—they are the official branch colors of the Quartermaster Corps. A black mailed fist seizing four lightning bolts is a reference to the battle honors earned by the unit over the years. The gold used for the flashes and for the trim of the mailed fist denotes excellence and high achievement, with the fist conveying the concept of military readiness and preparedness; together, they suggest the unit motto, “Lightning Carriers."
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
