The 345th Psychological Operations (PsyOp) Company beret flash and Airborne background trimming (oval) were approved on 14 August 2007. The beret flash—more accurately known as an organizational flash because it identifies a specific Army unit or organization—is worn centered on the stiffener of the maroon beret to reflect the Company’s Airborne status. All Company personnel wear the flash, regardless of their Airborne qualifications.
345th PsyOp Company Officers wear their non-subdued insignia of grade centered on the flash, while Enlisted Company personnel wear the
Distinctive Unit Insignia , also called a unit crest or DUI, of the
17th Psychological Operations Battalion, the Company’s parent organization. (Enlisted personnel assigned to units not authorized a DUI wear Regimental Distinctive Unit Insignia.)
Unlike the flash, the 345th PsyOp Company oval is worn only by those personnel who have been awarded a Parachutist or Air Assault badge. The oval is worn beneath the badge, with the main portion of the badge (i.e., excluding the star and wreath on the Senior and Master Parachutist badges) centered on the oval.
The oval-badge combination is worn by male and female personnel on the coats of the AGSU and ASU (including the ASU Dress variation) and on Service Uniform shirts (except on the Class B AGSU), and by female Soldiers only on the blue or green Army Maternity Tunic. The two items count only as one for measurement and placement purposes. Rules for placement of the badge and oval are found in
paragraphs 22–16(b)1 for the blue Army Service Uniform and
(b)2 for the Army Green Service Uniform.
