Now worn by personnel serving in the 292nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, the 292nd Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia—colloquially known as a “unit crest” or a DUI—was approved on 10 March 1997. Its buff and scarlet tones are the colors traditionally used in the heraldry and insignia of Support organizations, with scarlet denoting zeal and courage and the goldish buff color serving as a sign of high achievement and honor.
The wavy line created by the blue shields against the yellow chief (top third) symbolize water, in this case the Caribbean Ocean, reflecting the Battalion’s home on the island of Puerto Rico. The crossed sword and key seen in the chief reinforce the unit’s mission of overseeing and fulfilling the logistical needs of Soldiers, particularly in combat. A yellow, embattled chevron is an emblem of both strength and support, with the design emphasizing defense and fortifications since embattlements were typically seen on the top of the walls of defense structures like forts and castles. In all, there are five yellow battlements representing the sustaining imperatives of a Combat Sustainment Support Battalion: Anticipation, Continuity, Responsiveness, Integration, and Improvisation.
The red object on the chevron is a sentry box that is inspired by the silhouette of El Morro, a 16th-century citadel in San Juan, Puerto Rico also known as Castillo San Felipe del Morro or Castillo del Morro. Red and gold are used in the insignia acknowledging the Spanish influence on the history of the island.

As of Autumn 2023, the 292nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is assigned to the 191st Regional Support Command, Puerto Rico Army National Guard.
