The 272nd Transportation Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also known as a DUI or unit crest, was approved on 19 March 1999. Golden yellow and brick red, the branch colors of the Transportation Corps are use in the field for the wagon wheel and the background of the lower third of the shield, respectively.
A medium blue background above alludes to both the sky (and thus air transport) and, in combination with the wavy bar, water transport; brick red stands for ground transportation. Three arrows immediately recall the three overarching missions of the Battalion: Administration, Supervision, and the Movement of Army materiel. The wagon wheel denotes mobility, with its positioning denoting movement through the air (blue backing), over the waves, (wavy bar) and on the road. This emphasis on movement is reinforced with the unit motto, “Moving The Theaters Best.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
